Robert Seymour Bridges (1844 - ), engelsk digter, fik sin uddannelse i Eton og Oxford og studerede derpå medicin i London, hvor han en tid praktiserede samtidig med, at han var ansat ved et af de store hospitaler. 1882 opgav han sin medicinske virksomhed og slog sig ned i Berkshire, hvor han siden har
boet. Hans første digtsamling Growth of Love udkom privat 1872; på samme måde udkom flere af hans senere værker: Prometheus the
Firegiver (1883); Eros and Psyche (1885), og det var egentlig først med samlingen Skorter Poems (1890), der er et udvalg af disse privattrykte
samlinger, at han blev kendt i videre kredse. Stærkest synes han at være påvirket af elizabethanerne og Milton, af hvis versekunst han i Prosody of Milton (1893) har givet en overordentlig fin analyse. Denne videnskabelige interesse for hans kunsts teknik har dog ikke altid været gavnlig for hans egne vers, der undertiden kan synes lidt for meget skrevne for at illustrere hans metriske teorier. Foruden lyrik har han også skrevet en del skuespil, mest over klassiske emner: Achilles in Scyros; Ulysses. 1898-1902 udkom Poetical Works. 1913 udnævntes han til poet Laureate efter Alfred Austin. Han har også skrevet Critical Essay on Kcats.
